Advocacy

People with disabilities often need support in pursuit of their civil rights and personal needs. Individuals can receive assistance with advocacy (both personal and systems change) from our outreach coordinators.

Personal advocacy enables consumers to be effective promoters of their needs with dealing with requirements of the ADA. The CIL hosts a very active ADA Advisory Group that meets at the Center monthly and deals with local problems on ADA issues. Monthly ADA meetings are held at the CIL with a staff member facilitating and advocating for the needs of our communities.

Our staff assists consumers in personal advocacy, enabling them to be effective promoters of their needs when dealing with the public. Examples of several in which we are actively engaged are transportation services needs, affordable housing, and nursing home transition procedures.
